Coconut water is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in the sporting world as a rehydration drink. Here's some pictures of me having fresh coconut water in India.
After you drink the water, the coconut is then split open for you, and with a piece of the coconut shell, used as a spoon, you scoop out the flesh and eat it.
As a recovery drink, it doesn't contain significant amounts of carbohydrate and protein which a lot of athletes may need. But it does contain potassium and sodium. Would I recommend paying €4.49 for a litre of this drink in my local Tesco to benefit from the nutrients that I can get elsewhere in my diet simply by eating well?? DEFINITELY NOT!
